Ingredients
- Xiang Ru (Herba Elsholtziae) 6 g,
- Yin Hua (Flos Lonicerae) 9 g,
- fresh Bian Dou Hua (Flos Dolichoris) 9 g,
- Hou Po (Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis) 6 g,
- Lian Qiao (Fructus Forsythiae) 9 g.
Explanation
Xiang Ru: The principal drug, being pungent in flavor and slightly warm in nature, relieving exterior syndrome by inducing diaphoresis, removing summer-heat and eliminating dampness.
Fresh Bian Dou Hua, Yin Hua and Lian Qiao: Clearing away summer-heat in the upper-Jiao to quench thirst.
Hou Po: Removing dampness and relieving distension.
Effect
Removing summer-heat by inducing diaphoresis, clearing away heat and eliminating dampness.
Indications
Syndrome of early summer fever complicated by exogenous cold, marked by fever, headache, aversion to cold, absence of sweat, thirst, flushed Face, oppressed sensation in the chest, whitish greasy tongue coating, and floating rapid pulse; including common cold due to summer-heat and dampness with the above symptoms. "Absence of sweat" is the essential point for the application of this prescription when it is adopted to treat the syndrome due to summer-heat complicated by exogenous cold. If the syndrome is caused by mere summer-heat and manifested as fever and sweating, this prescription can not be used dispite of the existence of the symptom aversion to cold.
Administration
Decocted in water for oral dose to be taken twice.
