Ingredients

  • Ma Zi Ren (Fructus Cannabis) 500 g,
  • Shao Yao (Radix Paeoniae) 250g,
  • Zhi Shi (Fructus Aurantii Immaturus) 250 g,
  • Da Huang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei) 500 g,
  • Hou Po (Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis) 250 g,
  • Xing Ren (Semen Armeniacae Amarum) 250 g.

Explanation

Ma Zi Ren: The principal drug, being sweet in flavor and neutral in nature, moistening the bowels to relieve constipation.

Xing Ren: Keeping the adverse flow of the lung-Qi downwards, lubricating the intestines.

Shao Yao: Nourishing Yin, regulating the interior of the body.

Da Huang: Promoting laxation, purging heat.

Zhi Shi and Hou Po: Keeping the adverse flow of Qi downwards to relieve stagnancy.

Feng Mi: Moistening dryness to induce bowel movements.

Effect

Moistening the intestines, purging heat, removing stagnation of Qi, inducing bowel movements.

Indications

Syndrome due to dryness-heat in the gastrointestine and shortage of fluids, marked by dry stools and frequent urination; including such diseases with the above symptoms as habitula constipation, constipation due to hemorrhoid, etc.

Administration

Ground into powder and mixed with honey into pills. 9 g of the pills is taken each time, twice daily; or decocted in water for the decoction with the dosage of the ingredients adequately reduced according to their proportions.

Contraindication

This prescription is contraindicated for pragnant women and constipation due to blood deficiency and shortage of body fluid.
