Ingredients

Explanation

Da Huang: One of the principal drugs, removing accumulated heat from the intestines, clearing away heat and toxic material.

Dan Pi: The other principal drug, being bitter and pungent in flavor and cold in nature, clearing away heat in the blood.

Mang Xiao: Softening masses, dispersing stagnancy, assisting Da Huang in purging heat in the intestines.

Tao Ren: Being drastic in removing blood stasis, helping Mu Dan Pi and Da Huang to promote blood circulation and disperse blood stasis, and inducing bowel movement.

Dong Gua Ren: Clearing away damp-heat, expelling pus, resolving masses, relieving carbuncle.

Effect

Clearing away heat to remove blood stasis, resolving masses to subdue swelling.

Indications

Syndrome due to accumulation of damp-heat in the early stage of periappendicular abscess, marked by pain and tenderness in the right lower abdomen in which there are masses in severe case, scanty urine, intermittent fever, spontaneous sweating, aversion to cold, or crooked right foot which cannot be extended, and slippery rapid pulse; including such diseases with the above symptoms and signs as acute appendicitis, adnexitis, pelvic inflammation and infection after vasoligation.

Administration

Decocted in water for the decoction which is taken at a draught.
