Meaning

Lan, will end soon; wei, tail. Lanwei, appendix, is an anatomical term which is an earthworm like process on the lower end of cecum. There is an apparent tendor point between Zusanli and Shangjuxu on the shank. It is helpful for diagnosis the appendicitis. So, it was called "Lanwei".

Location

At the upper part of the anterior surface of the leg, 5 cun below Dubi (ST35), one finger breadth lateral to the anterior crest of the tibia.

Indications

Acute or chronic appendicitis, indigestion, paralysis of the lower extremities.

Method

Perpendicular insertion 1.5~2.5 cun.
