Explanation

Ma Huang and Zi Su Ye: Dissipating wind-cold, ventilating the lung and relieving exterior syndrome.

Gan Cao: Tempering the actions of all the other ingredients and removing toxic materials.

Fu Ling: Strengthening the spleen and eliminating dampness.

Huang Qin: Clearing heat and removing toxicity.

Qian Hu, Xing Ren, Jie Geng, Chen Pi and Ban Xia: Ventilating the lung, relieving cough and resolving phlegm.

Zhi Qiao: Moving qi, soothing the chest and middle energizer, relieving distention.
