清热泻火法

Method of clearing heat is using drugs of cold nature to clear heat and detoxifying. It can be applied to all heat diseases, such as warm disease, plague, dysentery, etc.

1.Clearing qi method

For the treatment of qi fen(second course of warm disease),diseases named as polydipsia, profuse sweat, full and rapid pulse, waste heat after sick, dysphoria. Common drugs such as Shi Gao, Zhi Mu, Zhu Ye, Zhi Zi. The heat can easy hurt qi and body fluid, so the prescription should match Sha Shen, Mai Men Dong, Gan Cao. Representatives such as the Prescription of Baihu Tang, the Prescription of Zhuye Shigao Tang, The Prescription of Zhizi Chi Tang.

2.Cooling blood method

It is for the second course of warm disease, syndromes like dark tongue, rapid pulse, hematemesis, sleepless, nosebleed, etc. Common drugs include sheng di huang, mu dan pi, xi jiao, chi shao, etc. Representatives are The Prescription of Qingying Tang, the Prescription of Xijiao Dihuang Tang.

3.Clearing both qi and blood

This method combines both methods mentioned above to cure diseases reaching qi course and blood course(severer syptoms than qi course), so-called vigorous heat at qi-blood phase. Representative is the Prescription of Qingwen Baidu Yin.

4.Clearing heat and detoxication

Mostly used for plague, warm or fire disease, skin and external diseases. Common symptoms are derangement, extreme hot, red and turgid head, aphthous stomatitis and pain in throat. Common drugs such as Huang Lian, Huang Qin, Huang Bai, Zhi Zi, Shi Gao, Lian Qiao, Ban Lan Gen, Sheng Ma, etc. Representatives have the Prescription of Huanglian Jiedu Tang, the Prescription of Puji Xiaodu Yin.

5. Clearing Zang-Fu method

Heat disease in one viscera and lead to heat syndrome and fire syndrome. For example, to eliminate heat in heart, the Prescription of Banxia Xiexin Tang, Ban Xia Xie Xin Soup , the Prescription of Daochi San are good choices; to eliminate liver heat, Xie Qing Wan, the Prescription of Longdan Xiegan Tang should be considered; to eliminate lungs heat, use the Prescription of Xiebai San；to eliminate spleen heat, use the Prescription of Xiehuang San; and for stomach heat, use the Prescription of Gegen Huangqin Huanglian Tang and the Prescription of Baitouweng Tang.
