下關

Xiaguan

Xiaguan(ST7,下关) is an acupuncture point in the meridian named Yangming Stomach Meridian of Foot.

Location

Lower border of the zygomatic arch, in the depression 1 cun anterior to the condyloid process of the mandible; anterior to the tragus.

Indication

• ①Temporo-mandibular joint(TMJ) syndrome, trigeminal neuralgia, toothache, deviation of the eye and mouth, and other diseases of the face and mouth;
• ②deafness, tinnitus, otorrhea, otitis media.

Method

Perpendicular insertion 0. 5-1 cun, or oblique insertion toward Tinggong(SI19). It is not advisable to open mouth while the needle is being retained, to avoid breaking the needle.
